Embracing Healing Through Faith: The RAIN Method and King David’s Journey
I decided to delve deeper into certain well-known practices, phrases, and principles surrounding emotional healing, energy, and trauma-informed practices. My education as a practitioner has profoundly deepened my faith, revealing missing keys I didn’t know I needed. It awakened within me a stronger relationship with God through Christ and a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness.
What I discovered wasn’t entirely new; it was as if scripture leapt off the page, connecting my learning with the teachings of Christ.
This realisation ignited a passion within me to educate and support Christian women who often feel lost, unworthy, or like imposters. I wanted them to understand that the answers they seek are already within them.
In today’s group session (keen to learn yourself click here), we focused on self-compassion, (a topic I’ve discussed in previous blog). To me, self-compassion is the key to true transformation. It’s not about self-indulgence or self-interest; it’s about vulnerability.
When we allow ourselves to forgive and embrace who we are, transformation naturally unfolds without force or pressure.
The RAIN method is a powerful example of this growth process. It’s widely taught across various practices and emphasises how we can navigate our emotions. To illustrate this, I’d like to share King David’s journey in Psalm 51 after his fall into adultery. His plea beautifully reflects the core elements of the RAIN method:
Recognize his sin and failure. (Psalm 51:3 – "For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.")
Experience the depth of his guilt and shame. (Psalm 51:4 – "Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight.")
Allow those emotions to surface and reflect on his nature. (Psalm 51:5 – "Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.")
Investigate the deeper root of his actions, longing for transformation. (Psalm 51:6 – "Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.")
Notice his need for cleansing and restoration with God. (Psalm 51:10 – "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.")
Witness both his guilt and God's mercy. (Psalm 51:1 – "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.")
Nurture his heart with hope in God’s love and forgiveness. (Psalm 51:12 – "Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.")
Through this exploration of the RAIN method, I hope to break down each aspect to help people gain a deeper understanding of this practice that can aid in trauma and emotional healing. My goal is to present it through a Christian lens, demonstrating how these timeless principles align with our faith. Together, let’s embrace the journey of self-compassion, transformation, and renewal in Christ.
